Fishing with a jig!

A jig is a type of fishing lure consisting of a lead sinker with a hook molded into it and usually covered by a soft body to attract fish. Jigs are intended to create a jerky, vertical motion, as opposed to spinnerbaits which move through the water horizontally

The jig is very versatile and can be used in both salt water as well as fresh water

Many species are attracted to the lure which has made it popular amongst anglers for years

Step 1

Use jigs no matter what the season because they are terrific year-round baits. However, they are at their best in cold weather. A slow presentation is essential for catching bass and that works best in cold water

Step 2

Work the jig slowly across the bottom once it has been cast. The jig is not a cast-and-retrieve bait, especially when going for bass. They work best when move slowly along and are danced along the floor of the lake

Step 3

Use a light jig when bass fishing and not a heavier one. The bass tend to respond better to the lighter jig and you will have a better chance of knowing it's on your line if you a using a light jig. However, if it's windy or the current is strong, switch to a heavier jig

Step 4

Set the hook quickly after you feel anything on the end of your line. The bass will not strike the jig hard and swim away. Instead, it is a subtle change to your line's pressure and your may only feel a little pull when the bass hits. A quick flick of your wrist should set the hook if you react quickly

Step 5

Use a brightly colored jig if you are fishing on a clear sunny day. If you are fishing on a cloudy and overcast day, use a darker jig. The brighter the day, the brighter colors you should use when jig fishing
